Notes from the sweep

The week to October 3, 2026

What the sweep turned up, and what it passed over.

The slush this week had a steady floor of endless runners, clickers and memory-card games, regular enough to count as weather. Class assignments turned up too: number guess, blackjack, tic-tac-toe, and one Snake Water Gun, which is rock-paper-scissors after a rebrand. A good share of what the sweep catches isn't a game at all but an article or talk about making one, which may be the purest form of game development.

The newer trend is AI dressed up as play: benchmarks with a Pac-Man skin, and arenas where models fight while you are allowed to watch. Several repos had titles written for search engines rather than people, with "Best 2026" doing a lot of work. The oddest find was a simulated fly brain living in a tank. We passed it over without judging the fly.
