Notes from the sweep
The week to August 1, 2026
What the sweep turned up, and what it passed over.
The slush had a theme this week, and the theme was Minecraft: at least ten rebuilds crossed the sweep, sometimes three in a single day, each apparently unaware of the others. Behind them stood the usual starter shelf — Tetris, tic-tac-toe, rock-paper-scissors, memory match — plus a wall of interchangeable idle-clickers off the itch firehose, some casino-table filler, and a few links that turned out not to be games at all. None of it is bad, exactly; it's the same tutorial finished in public, again.
The steadier signal ran the other way: the repos that sold themselves hardest — SEO "game tools," keyword-stuffed idle projects — had the least game in them, while the things worth featuring tended to ship with no assets, no dependencies, sometimes the whole program in one HTML file. Confidence, in this corner of the web, is quiet.
